MY OLD ARTHRITIC HORSE©
By Juris Orcino (Composed May 26, 2004, 10 PM)

Through scorching sun and freezing snow
Forbidding desert and raging river;
During younger days we rode so bravely
Enjoyed each other's quiet company.

We soaked in the rain, flew in the winds,
Lay down in the pasture, admired the skies
We end each day with a song and a prayer
To, once more, ride the next day together.

Now we're both slowing down and aging,
Our joints arthritic, swollen in pain;
Taking daily doses of glucosamine,
We still plod along again and again.

He trots and tumbles, can gallop no more
We hang on to each other to get through the day;
We limp, we pant, we go for a stroll,
We keep getting up despite many a fall.

Towards the setting blazing red sun,
We both look ahead, never looking down;
Between my old arthritic friend and me,
We have four good strong legs to roam free.

Through limps and tumbles,
Through pain, tears and laughter;
We'll both reach our distant dreams just yonder.
So giddi-yup my friend, let's yee-hah away,
For we are now running on heaven's highway !
